Community Development News
The 2021 Downtown Façade Improvement Grant Program is currently accepting applications. Since 2014 the program has awarded 46 grants to local business owners and it is anticipated that the City will award 5 additional grants in 2021.

A grant application to the Abandoned Properties Program administered by the Illinois Housing Authority was submitted by the City in December 2021. If awarded, the potential $75,000 grant will be used to demolish vacant and abandoned residential properties in the City.

A grant application to the Brownfields Assessment Program administered by the USEPA was submitted by the City in December 2021. If awarded the grant would allow the City to assess and catalog the types and extent of hazardous waste contamination at all potential Brownfield sites within the City to allow the City to better plan for hazardous waste abatement.

Throughout 2020 the City worked with local business owners to submit grants for the Downstate Small Business Stabilization Grant Program administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.  The grant program was set up to help small businesses with grants of up to $25,000 to deal with COVID-19 related business losses.  To date the City has been successful in helping 12 local business owners obtain grant funding.
