Administration

The City of Streator operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor and City Council hire a city manager to serve as the city's chief administrative office, just as a local board of education hires a superintendent of schools. The city manager supervises all city departments and is accountable to the City Council, who approves all ordinances contracts and policies. In addition, the city manager is the head of the Administrative Department.

Under the direction of the City Manager, the administrative offices manage all government operations including management, personnel, residential communication, data processing and legal support. The Administrative Offices also staff the City Clerk's Office, which is responsible for maintaining all records including city council, commission and committee minutes; ordinances, resolutions and the City code; and all inquiries from the public in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
