POSITION AVAILABLE FULL-TIME MECHANIC The City of Streator is seeking to hire a skilled full-time Mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles and equipment for the city’s public works, police and fire departments. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of vehicles, heavy equipment, engines and mechanical systems. The mechanic must be able to diagnose and repair gas and diesel vehicles and equipment, including backhoes, loaders and lawn mowing equipment. An excellent mechanic must have manual dexterity and great attention to detail. He/she must be able to work with various machines and tools as well as follow all safety regulations. Requirements • Proven experience as a Mechanic • Ability to solve problems • Excellent knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical and other systems and their components • Aptitude in using various hand tools and precision measurement tools • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions and service manuals. • A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines • Good communication skills • Very good physical strength and stamina • High school diploma is required; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite plus. Excellent salary and benefits, including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund. Position is a covered position in a collective bargaining agreement with AFSCME.
