Neighborhood Watch/Crime Stoppers

The crime problem in our nation is both costly and demoralizing. Directly or indirectly, we are all affected by crime that has caused injury, financial loss and intimidation. These situations demonstrate vividly the need for community involvement and assistance in crime prevention, reporting, and efforts in the Neighborhood Watch program.

This community-based crime prevention program is a simple and direct approach toward protecting our community from criminal attacks. The program involves the reduction of criminal opportunity through citizen participation in crime prevention measures, such as being alert and aware, reporting suspicious and criminal activity to the police, and initiating actions which reduce criminal opportunity.

Since its inception in November 2003, the Streator Police Department has held Neighborhood Watch meetings at City Hall. Meetings are scheduled typically on the first Monday of every month, and we ask that you check the messages below for forthcoming meeting announcements.

As its content basis, the Streator Police Department uses the comprehensive and well-written documents of the National Sheriffs' Association for its Neighborhood Watch program. Indeed, there are many avenues and aspects of crime prevention. Safety tips we endorse are fully described in the Neighborhood Watch publications of this resource center. (Please click upon the link to access the selection of documents.)

In these times of reported apathy within our communities, it is encouraging to find the concern and involvement you and your neighbors display with your Neighborhood Watch efforts. The Streator Police Department stands ready to assist and support you with this program. Please direct Neighborhood Watch questions and comments to Chief Pastirik by telephone at (815) 672-3111 or e-mail at nw@ci.streator.il.us.

Streator Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards up to $1,000 for anonymous tips that lead to the arrest or conviction of criminal suspects. Anyone with information regarding a crime or criminal activity should contact Streator Crime Stoppers at (815) 672-9000. Alternatively, you may e-mail your Crime Stopper tips to cs@ci.streator.il.us. (Note: For those who wish to remain anonymous, please be aware that e-mail is generally not an anonymous way to submit tips.)
